The FoodSaver VS2196 Vacuum Sealing System keeps food fresh up to 5x longer compared to ordinary storage methods, and helps prevent freezer burn. The built-in roll storage and cutter bar lets you easily make custom-sized vacuum seal bags without scissors, and holds both 11- and 8-inch bags perfectly. Moist and Dry modes ensure you get an airtight seal regardless of food type. And the built-in bag alignment provides correct bag placement for a proper seal every time. This food vacuum sealer also features a dishwasher-safe, removable drip tray for easy cleanup; an easy-lock latch for one-handed operation while you're securing bags; and an accessory port that allows you to use FoodSaver zipper bags, containers, and accessories with the bonus included handheld sealer and hose. Excellent, when it works
My husband bought me this as a gift last summer and I absolutely loved it. 6 months, and 3 rolls of wrap later, the heat sealer failed. I would have to try many times to get a decent seal, and I wasted a lot of wrap and food as a result.
I cleaned the unit as directed and tried all the troubleshooting but nothing seems to work. Although this is a great product, I feel it should last longer than 6 months. I am reluctant to replace it and for that reason I would not recommend this to any friends.

Great... when it works
I bought this about a year ago and it was working great until it decided to die out on me. It would be plugged in to the outlet with the lever on the vac setting but the buttons would not light up. Sometimes if I press the buttons it would work again for a couple of seconds before dying again. If you, like me, are looking for a reliable product that you will use a lot, this is not it. Stay away. I do not recommend this foodsaver and I am quite upset that I paid about 100+ dollars for a giant paperweight. Very disappointing.

Poor Quality
I owned the original food saver which lasted me for almost 20 years. This one didn’t even last a year and now won’t even power on. Quality is definitely not what they used to be. Extremely disappointed with this product

Amazing
I bought this on a clearance shelf with no instructions or bags. This is my second Food Saver. The last one was about 8 years old and well used. It finally gave up and so when I saw this one I snapped it up. What a wonderful machine. The last one was just the entry model and this one is a terrific upgrade. I love it and can't say enough about it. Just do yourself a favour and get one

D'autant plus décevant que le personnel de Foodsaver ne parle que l'anglais.

No suction
I came across this website today. I purchased my VS2196 about a year ago or so (fall of 2022), here in Toronto. I’ve used it several times, but I’m always frustrated with the lack of suction unless I push down on the lid. It’s always been a two handed operation, one pushing down while the other works the controls on the right. I really don’t think this should be the case,

Doesn't vacuum
Was excited when i purchased the foodsaver; worked great for the first couple of months. However, it doesn't vacuum seal anymore. I have been looking for replacement gaskets, however can't locate them to purchase. I feel for the price I should be able to get more then a year out of the machine
